The Motherland Monument

This impressive monument is 102 m tall. The stainless statue alone is 62 m tall and holds a 16 m long sword and a 13 by 8 m shield.

On the shield is one of the few places in Ukraine where you can still see the state emblem of the Soviet Union. In almost all other locations this symbol has been removed due to the decommunization law from April 2015 that forbids all USSR and Nazi symbols.

The monument was built in the period 1979 to 1981. It is a war monument for the Second World War and is also a part of the “National Museum of the History of Ukraine in the second World War”, which is one of the largest museums in Ukraine.
