Declared a UNESCO world heritage site in 2011 Chernivtsi University. The building is very beautiful but from what we understood you couldn’t go inside on a tour and you had to pay money just to walk around the courtyard, about 20 grieven. Be prepared for crowds. The building is still functioning as a University plus the tourists makes it a very popular spot.
Built from 1864-1882 it was designed by a Czech Architect. Originally built as a residence for the local clergy members it now houses the Universities Faculties for Modern Languages. The building was heavily looted and damaged in WWII. It started its first restoration in the 1950’s. In 2004 major restorations were undertaken to return it to its former glory and to attain the UNESCO status it now holds today.
Very beautiful University and beautiful city it should be on any list to visit Ukraine.
